I see that you came to Santa Barbara on the seventeenth of September. It’s such a small town, what made you decide to come here?
We actually really love playing there! We were also opening for one of our favorite bands The Frights.
I love your T-shirt design. What inspired the artwork?
Genessa, our guitar player actually drew it! I’m not sure though you’d have to ask her.
How did your band meet? What inspired you to start a band?
We all met at School of Rock actually! We ended up forming a band at the end of 2015 when my old band broke up.
What is the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a band?
I think a lot of people have low expectations of us because we’re young. That’s super annoying.
Where do you see your band ten years from now?
Honestly, no idea. We’re all just in it for the ride and wherever it takes us.
How did you decide on the name The Regrettes for your band? What were other contenders?
I was thinking of opposites. I like The Regrettes because it’s a mix of light and dark kinda like our music.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Do you think these topics will change over time?
I’ve written all the songs mostly that we’ve recorded thus far however we’re starting to write as a band which has been super fun. There isn’t a consistent theme or topic because my life doesn’t fall into a consistent theme or topic. All the songs I write cover my spectrum of emotions which is constantly changing just like my songwriting.
What advice would you give to our readers about starting a band?
Practice your craft, try writing music, and don’t be afraid of being bad at first.
What are your musical influences?
I looooove 50’s music like Buddy Holly, Patsy Cline, and of course Elvis. I also love 60’s girl groups and 90’s riot grrrl bands. I love so many different kinds of music I couldn’t name them all.
Are there any big plans coming up that you want our readers to know about?
We are going on tour with Sleigh Bells! And we have a record coming out soon-ish that everyone should look out for.
