While most people during the pandemic were making sourdough bread, spending hours on TikTok, and learning on Zoom, indie duo, Your Paris was dropping singles left and right. Nick Babcock and Laila Kharouba became this duo two months before the world shutdown and haven’t slowed down since. They are even slated to release their debut EP this year, but it all hit big for them with their singles. The single, “The Weather” which was released on November 17th, 2021, has 15,893 streams on Spotify and continues to grow in popularity.

“The Weather” tells the story of two different people in a breakup dealing with the emotions of losing each other and just wanting to be back together even if it is to only talk about the weather. It all started with country singer-songwriter, Robyn Ottolini, who cowrote the song. “When she sent us a voice memo of her singing the hook, we instantly connected to it,” says Your Paris. They went from exchanging voice memos to meetings on Zoom to solidify it. However, it all came to life one year later when Your Paris revisited it with their mentor and producer Michael Steinslien and added some pop elements.

The blend of country and pop that is “The Weather” aligns perfectly with Your Paris’s music style of genre experimentation. Their music style takes influences from Holly Humberstone, MUNA, Chelsea Cutler, The Band Camino, and 1975. In the future, they would love the opportunity to collaborate with 1975. Another future aspiration of theirs is to play at the Red Rocks in Colorado. By the 5-year mark, Your Paris hopes to see themselves with a couple of albums and tours. But at least for now, see for yourself how addicting “The Weather” is on all streaming platforms and keep an eye out for their debut EP!
