Faith Orozco

Up first we have Faith Orozco. Faith is a bass player and full time web developer from Frezno, California. Her style of playing incorporates rhythmic tapping on the bass. She also creates energetic and memorable bass lines that are the driving force of her dynamic punk band.

How did you find out about 1 RAD? What made you want to participate?

I found out about 1RAD a few years ago when I started following the She Shreds instagram account. This was my first year participating, I’ve always been intimidated by this challenge but decided to pursue it this year after seeing many amazing musicians in previous posts.

When did you start playing bass/guitar?

I started playing guitar at age 12. I bought myself a little pink guitar from a local swap meet with saved up birthday money and started learning from youtube tutorials. I started playing bass about 2 years later when my neighbor let me borrow his bass and I fell in love with it.

What was your personal goal for 1 Rad?

 I had 2 personal goals for 1RAD. To get better at a technique that I’ve always been curious about, tapping. My other goal was to connect with other musicians in this challenge and to collaborate with them. I can confidently say that I achieved both of those goals.

What is your creative process like?

Honestly my creative process is different for every different challenge I came to-whether it was writing my own riff, playing a cover, or collaborating with other musicians. In this challenge when I decided to write my own riffs I pulled inspiration from other tapping exercises and songs by a favorite artist of mine, Elephant Gym. When playing covers, I chose difficult songs to attain new skills and knowledge. I also played with other musicians such as @tingetheproducer and my band mates from She Grins. This allowed me to gain new skills for recording video and audio, and helped me put myself out there to meet new people.

#1Rad Day 17

“My 1RAD experience was everything I had hoped for! It was exciting, insightful, and it connected me to more people. Most of all it challenged me to become a better player. “

Who were some of your favorite 1 Rad participants this year?

There’s so many amazing people who were my favorites but the ones that really stood out to me were

@corvus_plexippus, @hollywooddesmo, @tingetheproducer

Which band inspires your playing?

Elephant Gym has gotten me to explore tapping more. Mike Dirnt from Green Day, almost every bass line I write incorporates his style. The punk genre in general inspires my way of playing because it has passion and energy that I strive for.

Tell me more about your band She Grins.

My band She Grins formed when I met my friend Des from a mutual friend of ours. We had both been looking for new people to play with and when we met each other and played together for the first time we instantly clicked. We started playing together every day and forming songs.

We’re in the process of recording but you can follow us on instagram @she_grins for updates!
